CALMING ANGER
TEXT: PROVERBS 15:1

BIBLE TEXT:

"A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger" (Proverbs 15:1).


An angry person feels very grieved and displeased about someone or something. Anger causes some people to do bad things that they would later regret. Sometimes anger leads to quarrel, fight or murder. It has broken many friendships and other relationships. That is why Horace said that, "Anger is a momentary madness, so control your passion or it will control you." The biblical story of Abigail, the wife of Nabal, depicts the effective way of calming anger. David would have killed Nabal and all the males in his family for insulting and dishonouring him if Abigail had not humbly gone to appease David (1 Samuel 25: 22). Avoid anger like a plague. Be careful with angry people. Be silent when you are confronted by an angry man. Be calm and answer such a one in a pleasant way. "Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt." In order to be able to do this, you must be saved and sanctified. You can pray and receive these experiences now.

Challenge: To rule one's anger is well, to prevent it is even better.
Prayer: Teach me O Lord to be calm before an angry person.

MARCH 27, 2017 DEFEATING SATAN TEXT: JAMES 4:7 BIBLE TEXT: "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you" (James 4:7). You should always remember the story of Job whenever Satan comes with his wiles. When you are tempted to sin, God is watching. Consider the possibility that God and Satan are having a conversation about you at that moment. God is saying, "Consider my servant, (insert your name here)" Satan would love to see you fall, confirming his accusation leveled against you before God. Satan, though powerful, is not invincible. We overcome him by not yielding to him but by resisting him. Dr. J. H. Jowett said, "Evil never surrenders its hold without a sore fight." To defeat Satan, all thoughts, affections, words, and actions, must be guided by the word of God. RHAPSODY OF REALITIES THURSDAY, 16TH MARCH. WISDOM THROUGH THE WORD. Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him (Proverbs 22:15). There’re people who never make the right choices or decisions or ask the right questions. What happened to such people? How did they become that way? The answer is in our opening verse. It says, “Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child….” Then it says the rod of correction will drive that foolishness far away from him. The rod of correction isn’t a stick or cudgel; that may help in some cases, but the actual rod of correction is the Word of God in your mouth, and the Word of God is the wisdom of God. Meaning that, the wisdom of God, coming out of your mouth will drive foolishness away from a child so that as he grows up, he gets wiser. The Apostle Paul hinted on this in his address to Timothy.
