The Return of the Lord

Image
The Return of the Lord By Billy Graham   •   April 14   •   Topics: End Times HomeDaily DevotionThe Return of the Lord man and woman praying together Our homeland is in heaven, where our Savior the Lord Jesus Christ is; and we are looking forward to his return . . . —Philippians 3:20 (TLB) The Scriptures indicate that we are living in man’s day. But there is coming a day that will be called the Day of the Lord. In the midst of hopelessness, there is hope! And that hope is centered in the God-man, the Lord Jesus Christ. Now the will of man runs riot in the earth. Then the will of the Lord will alone be done. Until that time, we are under orders from the King of kings to proclaim His message. When we engage in evangelism, we are obeying His great command to “go and proclaim.” In doing so, we are hastening the day of His return. Prayer for the day As I live in the hope of Your return, give me the wisdom and love to reach those around me.

MODERN PHILOSOPHIES

MODERN PHILOSOPHIES TEXT: COLOSSIANS 2:8 BIBLE TEXT: "Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ" (Colossians 2:8). In our text, Paul warned the Colossian Christians to beware of the Greek and Orient (East Asia) philosophies. The philosophies contained ideas about Divine existence which were contrary to Christian beliefs. They were also to avoid Jewish traditions which could pollute the sound doctrine they had received. According to William F. Hill, "If we find ourselves attached to this worldly system we live among, we are in danger." The warning is even more relevant now than then in the light of current realities. In some societies, today, you cannot spank your child, prayers and the Bible are not allowed in schools, and same sex marriage is legalised. These modern ideas must be rejected by Christians as Satan is spreading them through scholars, music a

Our Best Help

Image
Our Best Help by Joyce Meyer - posted April 14, 2017 I will lift up my eyes to the hills—from whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth. —Psalm 121:1-2 NKJV We should be maturing in our faith to the point that we don't run to someone else every time we need to know what to do. I am not implying that asking for a word of counsel from people we feel are wiser than we are is wrong, but I do believe asking for people's opinions excessively and relying on them too heavily is wrong and insulting to God. As you can tell from today's verse, David sought God first and knew God was his only help. The same is true for us, so we must be like David and always look to God first. We need to develop a habit of seeing God as our "first choice" for advice, not as our last resort. God may use a person of His choice to clarify things, offer additional insight, or confirm what He has already told us, so seek Him first and if He leads you to a p

Pray for His Fame

Image
Pray for His Fame Devotional by John Piper “Pray then like this: ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.’” (Matthew 6:9) Dozens of times Scripture says that God does things “for his name’s sake.” But if you ask what is really moving the heart of God in that statement (and many like it), the answer is that God delights in having his name known. The first and most important prayer that can be prayed is, “Hallowed be your name.” This is a request to God that he would work to cause people to hallow his name. God loves to have more and more people “hallow” his name, and so his Son teaches Christians to put their prayers in line with this great passion of the Father. “Lord, cause more and more people to hallow your name,” that is, esteem, admire, respect, cherish, honor, and praise his name. It is basically a missionary prayer.

CHANGE YOUR WAYS – Friday April 14th 2017

CHANGE YOUR WAYS – Friday April 14th 2017 Memorise: Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance: Matthew 3:8 Read: Acts 3:13-19 (KJV) 13 The God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, hath glorified his Son Jesus; whom ye delivered up, and denied him in the presence of Pilate, when he was determined to let him go. 14 But ye denied the Holy One and the Just, and desired a murderer to be granted unto you; 15 And killed the Prince of life, whom God hath raised from the dead; whereof we are witnesses. 16 And his name through faith in his name hath made this man strong, whom ye see and know: yea, the faith which is by him hath given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all. 17 And now, brethren, I wot that through ignorance ye did it, as did also your rulers. 18 But those things, which God before had shewed by the mouth of all his prophets, that Christ should suffer, he hath so fulfilled. 19 Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that you

At the cross of Calvary

Image
He hath poured out His soul unto death; and He was numbered with the transgressors. - Isaiah 53:12 AS every one who follows the Master's footsteps must needs have some Gethsemane experiences, so also each must have a taste at least of all the Master's experiences. Let us not forget, then, to look about us for opportunities for serving the "brethren," the "little ones," the members of the body of Christ. Let each be careful not to add to the reproaches that must fall upon all the followers of the Lamb, but on the contrary to offer words of sympathy, and to help bear each other's crosses, difficulties and trials by the way. Thus can we best show to our Lord and Head how we would have appreciated the opportunity of helping Him bear His cross on the way to Calvary.

Remember the Cross

Remember the Cross Jennifer Benson Schuldt Mark 15:19–20, 33–39 “Surely this man was the Son of God!”  Mark 15:39 In the church I attend, a large cross stands at the front of the sanctuary. It represents the original cross where Jesus died—the place where our sin intersected with His holiness. There God allowed His perfect Son to die for the sake of every wrong thing we have ever done, said, or thought. On the cross, Jesus finished the work that was required to save us from the death we deserve (Rom. 6:23). The sight of a cross causes me to consider what Jesus endured for us. Before being crucified, He was flogged and spit on. The soldiers hit Him in the head with sticks and got down on their knees in mock worship. They tried to make Him carry His own cross to the place where He would die, but He was too weak from the brutal flogging. At Golgotha, they hammered nails through His flesh to keep Him on the cross when they turned it upright. Those wounds bore the weight of
